Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Fuerteventura belongs to the Canary Islands group which is located in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the second largest island in the Canary Islands as it covers an area of 1,659.74 square kilometers. The capital city of the island is Puerto del Rosario. Unesco declared the island a biosphere reserve in 2009. In 2019, it is stated that the island had a population of 116.886 people. The name of the island is mixture of Spanish words, fuerte which means ‘strong’ and ventura which means ‘fortune’. The previous name of the island before its conquest was Erbania.
