Easter Island, Chile

Easter Island is an island which is located in the southeast of Pacific Ocean, at the south of the Polynesian Triangle. What makes Easter Island a famous and an exotic place is its about 1.000 monumental statues, which are called as ‘moai.’ The statues are believed to be created by the early Rapa Nui people, which is a common way to refer to the islanders. It was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1995. The reason why the island is called as Easter Island is that the explorer Jacob Roggeveen encountered the island on Easter in 1722.
