About Mont St. Michel

Mont St. Michel, in other words, Le Mont-Saint-Michel is an island and a mainland commune in Normandy. It is located at the mouth of Couesnon River near Avranches, which is approximately a kilometer away from the northwest coast of France. As of 2009, the whole population of the island is forty-four people. Being one of the most popular places in France, Mont St. Michel is visited by more than three million people every year. It was listed as a world heritage by Unesco in 1979. More than 60 buildings on the island are protected as historical monuments.
