Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

Lake Atitlán is the deepest lake in the Central America which reaches a maximum depth of 340 meters. It is located in the Guatemalan Highlands of the Sierra Madre mountain range. The word Atitlán is an indigenous word which can be translated as ‘between the waters.’ The Lake Atitlán and the area around the lake was changed into a national park in 1955. Since then, it is the most important and the most amazing national park with its beautiful lake as well as being an international, popular tourist attraction.
